EMERGING PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE


FYC 4941 is a core requirement for the Family, Youth and Community Sciences (FYCS) major and the Nonprofit Organizational Leadership minor. This 3-credit, graded experience requires students to earn 240 hours within a professional environment, applying the knowledge and skills gained through coursework. This course provides students with hands-on experience in their chosen profession and is meant to be a time of service and innovation to the supervising agency, as well as a significant learning opportunity for the student.

Students should complete FYC 4941 in their senior year. Students planning to enroll in FYC 4941 must submit a practicum proposal packet by the deadline listed below.

As of Fall 2019, FYCS majors must complete the following courses, earning a ‘C’ or higher, prior to enrolling in FYC 4941:

FYC 3101 or SYG 2430

FYC 3201

FYC 3401

FYC 4622

FYC 4801

FYC 4931


Students completing the Minor in Nonprofit Organizational Leadership must complete FYC 4409 earning a ‘C’ or higher prior to enrolling in FYC 4941

Students pursuing Family Life Education (FLE) must complete FYC 4503, earning a ‘C’ or higher.
