Betsy works in the administrative office for the department head, Dr. Tracy Irani.

Serving as the unit contact and liaison to the public and other university departments; oversees the provision of administrative services and the resolution of problems and inquiries.  Coordinates the promotion and tenure process for the faculty in the department, arranges and coordinates large events and conducts special administrative projects. Serves as the department building emergency coordinator, space committee member and disseminates information to unit.  Serves as unit resource for databases, reporting, policies and procedures.  Betsy is a director for the local non-profit Gainesville Rabbit Rescue, and she lives on a farm which keeps her busy when not at U.F.  

Kathryn Ivey, M.S.

Academic Advisor, Undergraduate Programs

Kathryn Ivey is the main academic advisor for the undergraduate FYCS program and is responsible for meeting with prospective students, assisting with course planning, as well as other academic responsibilities.

Kathryn is a graduate of the FYCS Undergraduate Program and recently finished her Master’s degree in Agricultural Education and Communications specializing in Leadership Development.

A lifelong Gators fan, you can often find Kathryn at various sporting events. Kathryn lives with her husband, Mike, and their hound dog, Flynn and kitten, Pepper. 

Shannon Jackson

Communications Specialist

Shannon Jackson is the departmental commuications specialist who manages the FYCS website, social media and all things FYCS brand and marketing. She creates digital and print media for both internal and external audiences. She also serves as the departmental photographer.

Outiside of UF, she is a freelance photorapher and videograpaher who works with animal welfare and social justice organizations to build social media campaigns as the voice behind the influencer and famous cat, Smush.

Nicole Sloan, M.A.

Distance Education Coordinator, Adjunct

Nicole Sloan manages the day-to-day operations, planning, and development of the FYCS online programs She represents the department at the UF Distance Education Administrators meetings and is an active member and past president of the CALS Council of Graduate Advisors. Away from the office, she, along with her husband and son run Sandy Neck Farm. There is no shortage of shenanigans when you’re surrounded by a fun collection of animal friends.
