Objectives -- After completing this module, you will be able to:
Assigned
Materials Topic 1: What are the key concepts in qualitative data analysis from a design perspective? There is a separate learning guide for each reading this week. Look at the guide for my comments and read my comments first. Then we will dig deeper. Comments about Qualitative Data Analysis Topic 2: How do you "do" qualitative data analysis? Bazeley, Pat. (2013) Ch. 2. Designing for Analysis in Qualitative Data Analysis, pp. 32-61. e-reserve. REQUIRED READING FOR EVERYONE Topic 3: A more sophisticated look at what you can and cannot do with qualitative data analysis -- LOTS of room for debate in the research methods community. You will be assigned ONE of the following readings. Do not try to read your assigned article and prepare your comments without consulting the Learning Guide for this week. There is a separate guide for each of these articles. You will save yourself a LOT of time if you use the guide. I have posted a list of the articles and which person is assigned to each on the discussion board (e-learning) entitled "Data Analysis Using Qualitative Techniques". Use the instructions in the document Sharing Materials available at the class website to prepare a summary of your points. Use the learning guide to focus your comments. As always, those questions point to the main ideas I want to make sure you capture in the reading. But also provide your assessment of the most important points in the readings -- what you found most useful or interesting. Post the summary to the class discussion for Module 8 Data Analysis Using Qualitative Techniques. Post the summary by 12:00 PM (NOON) on Monday October 14 -- in time to be available for our class discussion. Each article is assigned to at least two people. You will have about 10 minutes in class to compare your submissions to e-learning and identify the key points about qualitative data analysis. Your team will make a very brief presentation (maximum 5 minutes) of these points to the class as a whole. Astroth, K.S. & Chung, S.Y.
