Week 3 - Understanding the RFA (Request for Assistance)

These are typical application packages for federal grants. Please look these over so that you know what an RFA is and have an idea of how detailed and explicit the instructions for submitting a proposal to major donors are. Small and even some larger foundations have much less guidance. In terms of funding, more detail is better because you do not waste your time working on a proposal and then find out that it "just wasn't what the donor wanted." The uniformity in the required submissions also make the competition more equitable because everyone has to supply exactly the same information and the reviewers therefore can more easily compare them component for component.
