Family, Youth and Community Sciences Minor

A minor in Family, Youth and Community Sciences uses coursework that surveys and analyzes communities, youth and families in various cultural contexts to prepare students with the skills they need to use social capital and to locate or create resources for problem solving.

The diverse minor will enhance your program of study by providing you with the framework for using information relating to work-life balance and development in individuals, communities and organizations for strengths-based trouble shooting.

REQUIREMENTS

Students can earn a minor in FYCS by completing 15 credit hours of courses including:

FYC 3001 Priciples of Family, Youth and Community Sciences

FYC 3101 Parenting and Family Development

FYC 3201 Foundations of Youth Development

FYC 3401 Introduction to Social and Economic Perspectives on the Community

Organizational Leadership for Nonprofits Minor 

The Nonprofit Organizational Leadership Minor provides students with the knowledge base and competencies to perform in a variety of roles in nonprofit organizations. Students completing the minor have the opportnity to complet courses in Family, Youth and Community Sciences (FYCS) and other departments in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences as well as the college Business, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Education and Journalism and Communications.

REQUIREMENTS (From Fall 2016 on)

FYC 4409 Working with Nonprofits in Community*

FYC 4622 Planning and Evaluation of FYCS Programs or

FYC 4426 Risk Management in Nonprofit Organizations

FYC 4410 Fundraising for Community Nonprofits

FYC 4428 Human Resource Management 

FYC 4941 Practicum in FYCS**
