The profound cognitive, physical, social and moral
changes occurring in adolescence are discussed and used
to explain adolescent (mis)behavior.

set rules and consequences, communicate, and create
experiences for learning.
Session 4: Talking with Teens about Dating, Sex, Drugs
and Alcohol
Now that parents understand teens’ motivations for
misbehavior, they can use the communication and
consequence setting skills to address teen risk
behaviors. This session defines teen risk behaviors and
their prevalence in the U.S. and Florida
Session 5: Understanding Teen Anger and Managing Yours
Parents can get in touch with their anger triggers, what
they were taught growing up about anger, how to define
helpful from unhelpful anger, and to understand the
purpose of anger in their own lives.
Session 6: Empowering Teens to Build Assets
The more assets a teen has, the better off he or she is
developmentally. Parents will learn how to account for
and build their teen’s assets as well as empower teens’
positive development.
