Jeffrey K. Brecht, Ph.D.

Jeff Brecht is a Professor in the Horticultural Sciences Department at the University of Florida. He received a B.A. in Biology from Whittier College in California in 1979 and his Ph.D. in Plant Physiology from the University of California at Davis in 1984.
He has, over the last 21 years at UF, taught the class "Postharvest Horticulture," carried out extension programs in postharvest fruit and vegetable technology and food safety, and conducted research on the postharvest physiology and handling of fruits and vegetables.
He has authored over 300 technical publications and is co-editor of the 2nd edition of Postharvest Physiology and Pathology of Vegetables. He is Secretary of the Florida State Horticultural Society, and a member of the American Society for Horticultural Science, International Society for Horticultural Science and American Society of Plant Biologists.
Dr. Brecht is also an Associate Editor of the journals HortScience and Postharvest Biology & Technology. He was named a University of Florida Research Foundation Professor in 2002 and is the Director of the new UF/IFAS Center for Food Distribution and Retailing.
