Profile
Kate Fletcher has been with the Department of Family, Youth and Community Sciences since fall 2001 when she began her Master of Science degree in the Family, Youth and Community Sciences graduate program. Her thesis topic was Juvenile Offenders and the Impact of Youth Court and Peer Influence on Decision Making. She was the second to graduate from the inaugural FYCS graduate class in 2003.
Upon graduation, Kate worked for Rose Barnett, Ph.D. as the Coordinator for Research Programs and Services for the Aggressors, Victims, and Bystanders evaluation project for Palm Beach County. During Fall 2004, she began adjunct lecturing in the Department, beginning with FYC 3201: Youth Development, then teaching the same course during Spring 2005. During fall 2005, she taught FYC 3401: Social and Economic Perspectives on the Community. Then in the summer of 2006, she was hired to teach full-time. Then in January of 2007 Kate began working as the CYFAR State Evaluation Assistant on the Florida After-School Enrichment Project.
Beginning in the summer of 2008, Kate became the State Coordinator for the Florida After School Enrichment Project. Between 2006 and 2009 she taught periodically as an adjunct for the Department. Then in the fall of 2008, she was hired as a full-time permanent lecturer for the Department. Her teaching appointment began in the spring of 2009. Since that time she has enjoyed teaching many FYCS majors and non-majors students, along with advising approximately 50 undergraduate students per semester.
Personally, Kate has been married to Jerrod R. Fletcher, A.P., since May 2005. They have one son, Jackson, who was born in March of 2007. They reside in Alachua on the family farm.
