Housing & Community Development

FYCS programs and information addressing sustainable housing, agriculture, and communities help Floridians deal with a broad spectrum of housing and community issues that can affect their quality of life.

Housing areas of focus include educating homeowners, homebuyers, and renters about how to increase the performance of the home. Specific areas of interest are affordable housing, preventing and abating moisture and mildew problems, home safety and security including indoor air and water quality, home environment, and environmental responsibility related to waste management and conservation.

Extension educational materials in the area of sustainable agriculture are designed to provide farmers, consumers, and decision-makers with the knowledge and skills needed to understand and evaluate the sustainability of agriculture.

The FYCS Community Development program addresses the need for community development training and expertise for professionals in a variety of fields. Such skills facilitate local participation in planning and decision making, promote more sustainable uses of our natural resources, and help to enhance social and economic well-being as well as local adoption and adherence to development programs.
