Lisa Militana Class of 2005
I graduated in May 2005 and have felt extremely grateful for my experience at UF ever since. I decided to begin the University of Tennessee's Masters of Social Work program the fall after my graduation. Upon entering the program, I had no idea how much my FYCS teachers and curriculum prepared me for my graduate coursework. My first semester, and parts of my second, were basically a review of all of my undergraduate work at UF. I felt as though my FYCS education enabled me not only to gain acceptance to a competitive MSW program, but also to succeed at it. I have recently completed my first year internship at Cumberland Heights residential drug and alcohol treatment center here in Nashville, TN and have been hired for a clinical position. Although this is only a summer job, I feel as though I owe so much of my post graduate success to the wonderful staff who not only spurred my interest in the area of social service, but also taught me the importance of a multi-systemic background accompanied with sincere concern for all clients.

I have been working at New Leaf Academy as a life coach with a bunch of middle school girls. Every day I have to admit I am so thankful for my education at Florida. I appreciate all the discussions on communication, family patterns, child development, counseling, and especially insight into the difficulties of the clients life. I am glad I learned how to step into their shoes before I actually began my work experience!
Anyway, these past few months I have been learning in leaps and bounds but cannot get enough. I want to go back to school and learn how to better help, the more I can offer. Because of this I have applied to Asbury Theological Seminary's Master of Arts in Counseling program.

I just wanted to say hi really quick and keep in touch. When the subject of my college major comes up, I always brag about how much I loved the FYCS department. :)
